The book’s CDROM

The CDROM included as part of Writing mental ray shaders contains a fully functional version of mental ray (3.6.54). Images produced using this license are not limited in resolution nor are they “watermarked.” The only difference between this version and a commercial one is that requesting a license locks it for use on that computer only. For more information, see the Evaluation Software User Agreement and Software License Terms included on the CDROM as file EULA.pdf in PDF format.

Installing the mental ray software

In a browser, open the file mentalray/install.html on the CDROM for the installation procedure. The page will look something like this:

Clicking on the first link will take you to this page:

Click on the appropriate operating system and follow the instructions to install mental ray.

The installation process will ask you to enter the license code included with the CDROM. The envelope in the back of the book that contains the CDROM also includes the license code printed on a piece of paper that looks like this:
